The courts handled 1,800 divorces and custody
Consell law encourages mediation to expedite the resolution of family disputes

Courts Overburdened the Valencia have recorded so far this year nearly 1,800 cases related to divorce, separation and custody of the children. This was stated yesterday by the Regional Minister for Justice and Public Administration. Paula Sánchez de León gave the data to highlight the benefits this can bring law prepared by the Consell Mediation: this rule allows that almost half of these cases are resolved without going to court.

The Councilor ruled in this way during a press conference to present the II International Seminar on Arbitration Bar Association of Valencia. The meeting attended by 200 representatives from over 10 countries around the world to develop the arbitration as an alternative to litigation. Sánchez de León

pledged to boost the mechanisms of dispute resolution "to alleviate, as far as possible, the judicial backlog." That

is the aim of the Consell with the preliminary draft of the law of mediation. This sets up a register of accredited professionals to perform these functions of mediation. In this work

court excluded the cases of domestic violence and the actions constitute criminal offense, as highlighted by the Councilor of Justice. The draft will be discussed next year in Corts.
